About BAIC

Alongside passenger-car maker BAIC Motors, BAW and truck manufacturer Foton also belong to the BAIC Motor Group. BAIC Motor Group is a Chinese state-owned enterprise based in Beijing, active since 1958.

Since 2002, BAIC has built Hyundai vehicles for the Chinese market in its plants. Based on that quality, Mercedes-Benz also chose to have vehicles for the Chinese market manufactured in BAIC factories.

In mid-2009, BAIC acquired technical know-how from the bankrupt Saab, giving faster access to Swedish expertise in turbo engines and active and passive safety systems.

According to BAIC brand communications, X-series models build on a Mercedes-Benz Tech platform and use modern Euro 6 engines. At Grimbergen Motors the catalogue includes the BAIC X55 II and X75 (petrol or petrol/LPG), alongside other BAIC models such as the BJ30 Hybrid, BJ40 and BJ60.

BAIC produces millions of vehicles each year across the group’s brands. In 2017, BAIC Motor Group appeared on the Fortune 500 list. In 2019, BAIC acquired a 10% stake in Germany’s Daimler Group, behind Mercedes-Benz. Today BAIC pairs that Mercedes experience with a growing hybrid line-up — such as the BJ30 Hybrid in our catalogue.
